• Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

The ONSIDE Gaming Fund is designed to support individuals and grassroots organizations, collectives, groups, and cooperatives led by girls, women, and non-binary individuals, benefitting girls, women, and non-binary individuals in gaming and esports.


Groups and organizations:

1. Can either be registered or unregistered 

2. Must have an annual operating budget of less than USD 150,000 for the past two fiscal years

3. Must be led at least 60% by women/girl/non-binary individuals

4. At least one leader must be over the age of 18



1. Must identify as a girl, woman, or non-binary

2. Must be over the age of 18. 


  • Will any type of groups be prioritized? 

Yes, priority will be given to:

1. Applications clearly led by girls, women, and non-binary individuals that demonstrate participatory models of leadership, including meaningful leadership roles and active decision-making functions


2. Applications led by and benefitting underrepresented and marginalised communities


  • We are an organisation/group led by both women and men - can we still apply? 

Yes, you can still apply. However, please keep in mind that we will prioritise organisations and groups that are clearly led by girls, women, and non-binary individuals. 


  • We are an organisation/group led by men - can we still apply? // I identify as a man - can I apply? 

We only accept applications from groups and organisations led by girls and women and individuals who identify as a girl, woman or non-binary individuals. 

  • We are an emerging group and do not have annual income - can we still apply? 

Yes, you can still apply. We advise that you apply for a seed grant of USD 2,500.


  • Our organisation/group is NOT legally registered - can we still apply?

Yes, you can still apply. Your organisation/group does not need to be legally registered in order to apply for the ONSIDE Gaming Fund. We are accepting applications from both legally registered and unregistered organisations and groups. 


  • We do not create or play games, but focus on educating communities on gaming and esports or advocating for them - can we still apply? 

Yes, you can still apply. The ONSIDE Gaming Fund is looking to support initiatives in all sectors of the gaming and esports community. This includes activities related but not limited to game development, playing and organizing, competing in tournaments, educating, advocating, raising awareness, among others. 


  • We are a for-profit organization / social enterprise - can we still apply? 

Yes, social enterprises and for-profit organizations with expected social returns on investment can still apply. However, please keep in mind that we will prioritise funding non-profit organisations and groups. 


  • My group/organization is a branch of/fostered within a larger organization. If my group’s budget is lower than $150,000 USD, can we still apply? 

If your organisation’s income is larger than $150,000 USD, you are not eligible to apply. This includes the entire annual operating income of your organization and not just one specific branch or project.


  • Can we apply for the ONSIDE Gaming Fund in our own language?

At this time, we are only accepting applications in English.


  • Can we submit our application form by email?

  • What do you mean by annual operating budget and what currency do you use?

Annual operating budget is all the income and total amount of funding your organisation or group receives in a fiscal year for its operations, excluding only the physical assets that you may have. We are asking organisations and groups to indicate their two most recent annual income amounts in US Dollars (USD). A link to a currency converter will be provided within the application form to support you with this. If your organisation or group has no annual income, please write 0 in the application form.


  • How can we use the funding from the ONSIDE Gaming Fund?

The ONSIDE Gaming Fund will provide unrestricted funds to organisations and groups working to support girls and women in advancing gender justice in gaming and esports. Organisations and groups are free to decide how to best use the funds in line with the vision, mission and objectives of the ONSIDE Gaming Fund. 


The ONSIDE Fund will not fund organisations that provide material support or resources to any individual or entity that commits, attempts to commit, advocates, facilitates, or participates in activities such as gambling, trafficking, money laundering, political campaigns, religious activities, terrorist acts, purchasing of weapons or drugs.


  • What is the maximum amount of funding we can request? 

Within the application form, you will be asked to select one of four funding amounts: (1) $2,500 (2) $5,000 (3) $7,500 or (4) $10,000. We advise all applicants to be intentional about the amount of funding they request from the ONSIDE Fund. The maximum amount of funding available for organisations and groups is up to $10,000 (USD), and for individuals is $5,000 (USD).


It is highly recommended to apply for no more than 50% of your annual organisational income. And if you have none or less than $5,000 in organisational income, to apply for a seed grant of $2,500. 


  • Do we need to have a bank account to be able to receive funds?

Yes, in order to receive international transfers. For individuals, it should be a personal account, and for groups and organizations, it could be either an organisational account for registered groups, or the personal account of one of the leaders.

  • What is the ONSIDE Gaming Fund selection process? 

The ONSIDE Gaming Fund selection process has 2 phases: (1) Firstly, a screening process will be conducted by Women Win staff in order to create a shortlist of organisations and groups. (2) This shortlist will then be sent to the ONSIDE Gaming Advisory Committee (OGAC). The OGAC members are young leaders with diverse backgrounds and experience in the gaming and esports sector who advocate for and are passionate about advancing gender justice in and through gaming and esports. Committee members will come together to review and select re-grantees, ensuring a fully participatory grant-making process. 


  • I have met/worked with Women Win and/or members of the OGAC in the past, am I still allowed to apply? 

Yes, you are still welcome to apply. WW and the OGAC have assured mechanisms to manage any potential conflict of interest and not allow it to interfere with a fair and transparent decision-making process. 

  • Is this the only call for ONSIDE Gaming Fund applications?

This will be the only call for ONSIDE Gaming Fund applications in 2021. However, the ONSIDE Gaming Initiative is committed to the continued support of grassroots, community-based organisations and groups led by girls, women, and non-binary people, working to advance gender justice around the world. A second call for applications will open in 2022 if appropriate resources are mobilised. 


  • What personal information will be collected from applicants, and who has access to this information?

Within the application form, we ask for the contact details of the applicant (individuals and organizations), as well as those of a reference. Only Women Win will have access to this information. Additionally, we will ask for general information about the applicant, and for details on their funding request. 


  • When can we expect to hear back about our application?

We expect to reach out to elected applicants around mid-February.
